Making things your own

When I started crocheting I had a very small inkling of what I was supposed to do. I knew that double crocheting meant one thing while a single crochet meant another. Honestly it was probably best that I went into this craft not knowing what I was doing because it gave me free reign to sit and play with what I thought would work and what might not.

After my previous post about the Mermaid Tail blanket I was finally able to give my sister her blanket and in the process made one for my roommate. Now these two are very different in their tastes and I wanted that to reflect in the colors I chose for their blankets. As you saw with the previous post that was my sister’s blanket. She is a classic Disney lover so I kept her blanket with the colors one might expect with a mermaid. My roommate on the other hand likes things to be a little darker, she is of the Disney villains spectrum. On the left my roommate and on the right the finished product for my sister.

A lot can be said for not sticking to the prescribed methods for patterns and that was extremely true when I created this happy hippo to throw my sister off the scent of what I was making her. I created the hippo first and then added the tutu, and if we are being completely honest I am not 100% sure how I made the hippo’s nose work.
